Until recently I did not know what GMO corn was and what health implications were associated with the consumption of it was. So what is GMO corn? Well for one thing it is not good for you and not part of exercise and healthy eating. Even non GMO corn can be contaminated but I will save that for another blog post. The Wall street Journal just posted an article about how Russia has suspended the import and use of a GMO corn made by Monsanto after a resent study suggested the crop might cause cancer. Scarey stuff. Genetically modified corn contains a pesticide that cannot be washed off. It is within the genome of the corn that is know as BT corn (Bacillus thuringiensis which is a bacteria) This gene in the corn causes a toxin to form when pests eat the corn. These toxins cause holes in the digestive track of the pests ie worms and basically the worm dies from sepsis. Which is when their own bacteria from their bowel IE poop enters the rest of their bodies causing sepsis and the worn dies. Gross it is and we (not me anymore) eat this corn and it is suggested rightly so that when we digest the corn the BT toxin causes little holes in our digestive track causing various illnesses like IBS, auto immune diseases and tons of others. On a better note, last year I did the Ultimate Reset in April which consisted of whole foods and supplements and during the Reset I felt great. After the reset and going back to some regular foods I did not feel as good. I was still eating healthy but did not feel as well as I did while on the reset. Now I truly think part of the great feeling during the Ultimate Reset was due to eating GMO free foods. I ate all organic foods during the 21 days. So think before you buy food and look for the non gmo label, buy organic and avoid the top GMO ingredients unless organic. The top ten GMO foods are Soy, Corn, Cotton, Canola, Beet sugar, Aspartame, Papayas, Dairy, Zucchini and Yellow Squash. This includes any ingredients made with these crops like soybean oil, corn oil, Conola oil, High fructose corn syrup, corn starch, diet sodas and many others. If you don’t believe that GMO’s are harmful to your health just do your own research and you will never eat corn again unless its non GMO corn.
